Introduction

Established in 2003 by the Association of Nigerians in the Capital District (ANCD), the ANCD Foundation is a not-for-profit tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code.

The Foundation is dedicated to implementing programs—including cultural awareness, technology, and educational activities—for the betterment of our community.

Our Goal: To establish a Nigerian-American Community Center that will afford the Association the opportunity to provide worthy services to the community.

Programs that will be offered at the Community Center will include:

Community Outreach

Purpose: The purpose of our community outreach is to develop community-based programs that:

  • Enhance Cultural Awareness: Promote the heritage of Nigerians through active participation in the community.
  • Support New Immigrants: Assist new arrivals to successfully acclimate to life in the Capital District.
  • Encourage Civic Pride: Promote volunteerism among members while instilling positive values, civic responsibility, and skills for good citizenship in both our adult and youth community members.
  • Empower Youth: Strengthen the educational and career aspirations of young people through dedicated mentoring.

Cultrural Exchange

  • Background: Established in 2003 by the Association of Nigerians in the Capital District (ANCD).
  • Strategic Purpose: To foster a sense of community among diverse ethnic and racial groups and build lasting relationships through cultural performances and historical presentations for area schools and community-based organizations.
  • Annual Anniversary Event: An annual celebration held to commemorate our anniversary that consistently attracts a respectable attendance.
  • Features keynote speakers delivering addresses on topics of interest to our members and the community at large.
  • Showcases Nigerian cultural shows, including fashion and cultural dances.
  • Highlights traditional Nigerian cuisine as a central feature of the occasion.
  • Summer Picnics: ANCD also holds free annual Summer picnics that attract strong community attendance.
